Frequently asked questions

Does the app work offline?

Yes. Every learning game works without an internet connection. On Apple devices, a compact progress summary can sync privately through iCloud. The Fire edition does not need an internet connection for its learning games.

How does Dot-to-Dot Discovery work?

Choose Tap dots to press the next number or Trace lines to draw from the previous dot to the next. If help is needed, the hint button reveals and speaks the next number. Every visible dot belongs to the trail, and varied spacing encourages number recognition rather than simply choosing the nearest dot. The gallery contains 84 illustrated puzzles across the main 1–10, 1–15 and 1–20 ranges, with selected 1–25 challenges. Completed pictures expand into a full-screen, picture-specific colouring stage. Children can tap a region to shade it or colour directly with a finger or compatible stylus.

How does Star Speller work?

Choose a Year 1 practice group and a 3, 5 or 10-word mission. The app speaks the hidden word in a short context sentence, the child types it, then practises its letter formation. Hint use and errors are saved to the active child profile so adaptive practice can revisit words that need help. Grown-ups can add their own list and optional example sentences in My Words.

How do I switch between children?

Tap the profile avatar on the main menu to add or switch children. After more than one profile exists, the app asks who is playing when it opens. Each child keeps separate progress.

What syncs or transfers between devices?

On Apple devices, profile details and a compact summary of Dot-to-Dot, Comet Writer and Circuit Challenge progress sync privately between devices using the same Apple Account. On Fire tablets, the app does not provide its own sync service, but private preferences may participate in an operating-system backup or device transfer if that feature is available and enabled.

Why is Apple Pencil-only mode not available?

Pencil-only mode appears on compatible iPads. Turn it on from Comet Writer's writing controls. With it enabled, a finger can still operate buttons but only Apple Pencil draws on the writing pad. For general handwriting practice, Comet Writer is best played with a capacitive stylus.

Why does custom-word recording need the microphone?

A grown-up can optionally record a local pronunciation for a custom word. The permission appears only after the adult gate and after Record is chosen. All other activities work without microphone access.

How do I practise one letter or number?

Open Comet Writer and choose Quick Practice. Pick any lowercase letter, capital or number to begin immediately.

How do I choose particular times tables?

Open Circuit Challenge, choose Quick Play and then Custom Settings. Enable multiplication or division to reveal the individual times-table picker.

How do I delete learning data?

Use the grown-up controls to remove profiles, saved trails or custom words. Clear All Data removes local learning data and tells synced iCloud devices not to restore older progress. Removing only the app does not necessarily delete its private iCloud progress value.

Troubleshooting

No sound

Check the in-app sound and music controls, the device volume and silent mode. If another app interrupted audio, close and reopen Maxi's Mighty Mindgames.

Microphone was previously denied

Open the device Settings app, find Maxi's Mighty Mindgames under apps or permissions and enable Microphone. The app can still be used normally without it.

Drawing does not appear

On iPad, check whether Pencil-only mode is enabled. If using Apple Pencil or another stylus, confirm it is connected or charged as appropriate, then reopen the writing mission.

A layout or progress problem persists

Install the latest App Store version and restart the device. If the problem remains, email support before deleting data so the issue can be investigated.

iCloud progress has not appeared yet

Confirm both devices use the same Apple Account for iCloud and are online, then open Settings inside the app and choose Check for updates. The games remain playable while iCloud is unavailable.

Compatibility

The current release supports iPhone and iPad running iOS or iPadOS 16 or later, plus compatible touchscreen Amazon Fire tablets. Apple Pencil features require a compatible iPad and Pencil.
